A shocking case of animal cruelty has left residents outraged after an aspin named Kobe was discovered in Valenzuela City with his tongue completely cut off, prompting his owner and the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) to appeal for public assistance in identifying the perpetrator.

The incident occurred between 12:15 a.m. and 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 9, along Aratiles Street in Barangay Balangkas.

Kobe’s owner, Rodlee, discovered the dog’s severed tongue on the street after following a trail of blood from their home.

“Humihingi po kami ng tulong na maituro kung sino man ang gumawa nito sa aso namin. Nakita po namin ang putol na dila sa Aratiles St. kung saan nasundan namin ang dugo mula sa aming bahay patungo sa pinangyarihan kung saan napulot namin mismo doon ang putol na dila ng aming aso,” Rodlee said in a Facebook post.

“Handa po kaming magsampa ng kaso sa walang hiyang taong tumarantado sa aso namin,” she added.

Veterinarians confirmed that Kobe suffered massive blood loss and tested positive for parasites and infections.

His tongue cannot be restored due to the depth of the cut, which damaged multiple blood vessels.

Rodlee also appealed for financial assistance to cover Kobe’s mounting medical bills.

“Lahat po ng maibibigay ninyo—kahit maliit—ay napakalaking tulong na para mapagpatuloy ang gamutan niya,” she said.

Authorities and animal welfare advocates are urging anyone who may have witnessed or heard anything related to the incident to come forward.

Information may be reported to PAWS’ legal coordinator for cruelty cases at 0905-401-2235.  (Hannah Nicol)
