Focus crimes, including murder, rape, and robbery, dropped by 13.82 percent nationwide in the past three months, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP), which credited the decline to intensified crime deterrence and high solution efficiency.

From July to September this year, the number of focus crimes fell to 8,988 from 10,430 incidents recorded in the same period last year, Police Brig. Gen. Matthew Baccay, director of the Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management (DIDM), said.

The eight focus crimes include crimes against persons which are murder, homicide, physical injury and rape; and, crimes against property which are robbery, theft, carnapping and motorcycle theft.

Citing data from the DIDM, Baccay said murder incidents decreased from 3,042 cases to 2,549 cases; homicide from 932 to 794; physical injury cases from 4,112 to 3,404; rape cases from 7,191 to 5,540.

Robbery cases went down from 3,164 to 2,629; and theft cases from 9,886 to 9,009; carnapping from 230 to 191; and motorcycle theft cases dropped from 1,569 to 1,532. (Aaron Recuenco)
