A motorcycle carrying two security guards slammed into an ambulance transporting patients at the busy intersection of United Nations Avenue and San Marcelino Street in Manila early Monday morning, Feb. 23, leaving the riders and several ambulance occupants injured.

The Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) Medical Response Team quickly arrived at the scene, administering first aid to the injured riders who were found sprawled on the pavement.

Authorities identified the motorcycle driver as a 31-year-old male who complained of pain in his right thigh and hip. His 25-year-old female passenger sustained injuries to her right hand, right knee, and head.

Both were treated on-site before being taken to a nearby hospital for further medical care.

Several patients inside the ambulance also suffered minor injuries, including bruises and small cuts from shattered glass.

Emergency responders ensured they received immediate attention and were safely transferred for evaluation.

The collision, which occurred before dawn at the busy intersection, prompted swift action from emergency personnel to secure the area and assist all victims.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash, with authorities looking into possible factors such as speed, right-of-way, and road conditions. (Diann Calucin)
