RR Pogoy typified the hot-shooting night for TNT, drilling six of the team’s 20 triples to thump Converge, 110-103, in the PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup at the Chavit Coliseum in Vigan City on Saturday, Oct. 18.
Limited to just four points through the first two quarters, the veteran gunner waxed hot and fired 23 of his 27 points in the second half as the Tropang 5G staved off repeated rallies from the young and gritty FiberXers.
Six players actually nailed at least one triple for TNT with Calvin Oftana and Kelly Williams each nailing four to finish with 18 and 14 points for the Tropang 5G who improved to a 2-1 record in the standings.
Rey Nambatac, scoreless through the first three quarters, also keyed a fourth quarter separation as he buried two huge four-pointers that allowed TNT to regain its footing 101-92 after Converge tied the game at 90-all.
He scored all of his 10 points in the payoff period to help his team overcome the FiberXers who battled back from a 14-point deficit in the second half.
Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser also chipped in 14.
Justin Arana and Alec Stockton paced a balanced Converge attack with 19 points apiece but to no avail.
After notching a triple-double on his PBA debut, Juan Gomez de Liano had a solid 14 points, nine rebounds and six assists while Justine Baltazar and Schonny Winston finished with 17 each.
The FiberXers dropped to a 1-1 record.
