Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso issued a stern warning on Monday, July 7, to job order (J.O.) employees at the City Hall who have been habitually absent or failing to report for duty.

Speaking at the city government’s regular Monday flag-raising ceremony, Domagoso underscored the importance of accountability in public service — especially among contractual workers whose salaries are funded by taxpayers.

The mayor also floated a proposal to adjust the City Hall’s working hours from the current 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. schedule to a 7 a.m.- 4 p.m. shift.

“I will hear you. I will listen to you and I will follow your decision,” he told employees gathered at the city hall grounds.

The suggestion was put to an informal vote during the ceremony and gained majority support from those in attendance.

Domagoso said the revised schedule is intended to improve government productivity while helping employees avoid rush-hour traffic. The city government will conduct further consultations before issuing any formal order.

Concluding his address, the mayor reminded both regular and job order personnel that public service is a full-time duty, not just a sideline. (Diann Calucin)
