DAGUPAN CITY — Jeepney drivers in downtown Dagupan voiced frustration on Tuesday, saying the planned increase in minimum fare from ₱13 to ₱15 has failed to ease their financial struggles.

One driver admitted he is uncertain about continuing in the profession, as rising costs for fuel, boundary fees, and vehicle maintenance leave little to no profit.

“Parang wala pa rin kaming kinikita. Hindi ko na alam kung magpapatuloy pa ako,” he said, underscoring the hardship faced by many in the transport sector.

While the fare adjustment was intended to cushion drivers against soaring fuel prices, commuters are also beginning to feel the pinch.

Some passengers voluntarily paid ₱15 as early as Tuesday to help drivers cope.

Transport groups and local authorities have yet to announce additional measures to support drivers amid the ongoing fuel crisis.
