Batangas 1st District Representative Leandro Legarda Leviste, known for his anti-infrastructure corruption crusade, revealed on Christmas Eve (Dec. 24) that he has instructed several people to expose his files should “something” happen to him.
He made the announcement just hours after releasing to the public a 19-page list of Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) project proponents under the P6.326-trillion national budget for 2025.
While the list did not specify possible congressional “insertions,” it detailed the allocable amounts per House member, which Leviste described as annual earmarks that district representatives may allocate.
In a Facebook post, the 32-year-old lawmaker shared that even during Noche Buena with his mother, Senator Loren Legarda, and their family, work remained a topic of discussion.
“Pinaalala ko sa aking ina ang aking bilin sa iba’t ibang mga tao: kung may mangyari sa akin, isapubliko ang lahat ng files na iniwan ko at tapusin ang ating sinimulang pagbabahagi ng impormasyon. Maligayang Pasko po sa ating lahat! ??,” said Leviste.
He did not identify the individuals entrusted with his instructions.
The disclosure comes amid heightened tension following the death of former DPWH undersecretary Maria Catalina Cabral—the official who provided Leviste with the proponents list.
Cabral reportedly died on Dec. 18 after falling into a ravine in Benguet. Authorities are investigating whether foul play was involved.
In a recent podcast with the Manila Bulletin, Leviste confirmed that he beefed up his security detail.
