House Majority Leader and presidential son, Ilocos Norte 1st District Rep. Sandro Marcos, appeared before the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) on Thursday, Dec. 4, stressing that he went on a voluntary basis to help in its investigation.

Marcos arrived at the ICI headquarters in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig, at around 1:30 p.m. and immediately requested an executive session.

Facing the media briefly, he clarified that he had not been “served a subpoena” nor made “a subject” of the inquiry.

“I would just like to say I came here on a voluntary basis so I could help ICI in their investigation,” Marcos said.

“I’m willing to give and tell the ICI anything that I might know over the investigation.”

His counsel explained that the lawmaker sought a closed-door session to ensure candor and protect sensitive details.

“He already submitted himself voluntarily to the commission and would like to share as much information as candidly as possible. More importantly, there may be critical information that could jeopardize or compromise the investigation if disclosed publicly,” the counsel noted.

Marcos and the First Family were dragged into the anomalous flood control projects by former Ako Bicol Party-list representative Zaldy Co in a video statement posted on Facebook.

The ICI found no value in such statements. (Joseph Pedrajas)
