The Philippine Blu Boys are scheduled for a two-week training camp in Higashikagawa, Japan as part of their buildup for the upcoming Southeast Asian Games in Thailand this December.
During their stay, the Filipino softball players will also be competing in a series of tune-up games not only against their local counterparts but also from other squads from Singapore and Hong Kong.
The last time softball was played in the SEAG was in the 2019 edition that the Philippines hosted, with the Blu Boys settling for the silver after bowing to Singapore in the finals.
Prior to that, the Blu Boys won the gold medal in the 2015 edition held in Singapore.
Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (ASAPHIL) President Jean Henri Lhuillier is optimistic of the team’s medal chances as the sport returns to the regional competition scene.
“This Japan training camp is a vital step in strengthening the Blu Boys’ skills and teamwork as they prepare to represent the country in the SEA Games,” said Lhuillier, also CEO of Cebuana Lhuillier.
“Playing against world-class teams will not only boost their confidence but also refine their strategies for regional competition. Cebuana Lhuillier remains fully committed to supporting our national athletes as they strive for excellence and bring pride to the Philippines,” he added.
A consistent contender in the international scene, the Blu Boys have made notable appearances in the Men’s Softball World Cup and other regional events.
