Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Nicolas III braved heavy rain as he jogged 10 laps around the PNP oval at Camp Crame in Quezon City ear Friday morning, July 25.

The run, which started at 6:20 a.m., was part of his training for his proposed charity boxing match with acting Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte.

Torre aims to turn the event into a fundraising drive to aid victims of  typhoon “Crising” and southwest monsoon or “habagat,” which recently caused widespread flooding.

PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo it was part of Torre’s routine to jog around the PNP oval, whether it rains or it shines, before he goes on with his daily schedule as the country’s top cop.

However, the boxing match, supposed to be scheduled on Sunday, July 27, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum or Rizal Memorial Coliseum is now uncertain as Duterte left the country yesterday for Singapore.

Citing a report from NBI-International Airport Investigation Division (NBI-IAID) Executive Officer Marvin Villardo, NBI Director Jaime B. Santiago disclosed that Duterte flew out of the country for Singapore at around 7:10 a.m.

Earlier, Duterte demanded that before the boxing match could proceed, all elected officials, including President Marcos Jr., should first undergo a hair follicle drug test.

This has been a long-time demand by the Duterte camp and its supporters after accusing the President of using illegal drugs, an allegation that has been repeatedly denied by Marcos. (Martin Sadongdong)
