Gilas Pilipinas member Carl Tamayo exploded for 34 points but his efforts went down the drain as the Changwon LG Sakers were ambushed by Wonju DB Promy, 67-63, in the Korean Basketball League (KBL) Monday, March 3.
Tamayo’s 34-point output was his second best in the Korean league since erupting for 37 earlier this year. He followed it up with a 31 in the team’s next game in what could be his best week in the KBL.
The former UP Fighting Maroons star also logged in eight rebounds, two assists and three steals in almost 31 minutes of action.
Curiously, it was Fil-Am Ethan Alvano who spoiled Tamayo’s big night. Alvano made key baskets in the fourth to will the Promy to victory and finished with four rebounds, four assists and one steal while Jeong Hyo-Geun and Omari Spellman added 18 and 12 points.
It was Alvano’s fourth consecutive game with 20 points or more.
Wonju now improved its record to 19-22 at sixth while Changwon slipped to 25-16 slate.
Meanwhile, Javi Gomez de Liaño fired 22 points to lead the Anyang JKJ Red Boosters to an 89-76 win against the Seoul Samsung Thunders.
De Liano’s 22-point effort was a fitting sequel to his 19-point show in the team’s 70-55 win over Changwon.
