“Ang pag-aasawa ay parang isang mahabang biyahe sa motorsiklo,” Marikina City Mayor Maan Teodoro told newlyweds as she officiated the wedding of 10 rider couples.
The ceremony was held at the historic Kapitan Moy Plaza in Barangay Sta. Elena on Thursday, Feb. 12, just days before Valentine’s Day.
Organized by the local government, the event brought together delivery riders and motorcycle enthusiasts who sealed their vows before family, friends, and city officials.
In her message, Teodoro likened marriage to a long motorcycle journey, filled with both smooth roads and inevitable challenges.
“Hindi araw-araw ay patag ang daan. May mga araw na smooth ang takbo, masaya at magaan. Pero may mga araw din na may lubak, may traffic, may ulan, at minsan, may kailangan kayong ayusin sa gitna ng biyahe,” she said.
Teodoro reminded the couples that lasting partnerships are built on trust, patience, and the daily choice to stay together.
Just as riders never abandon one another on the road, she urged them not to let go of each other’s hands when challenges arise.
“Hindi ang bilis ng takbo ang magdadala sa inyo sa ‘forever,’ kundi ang pagtitiyaga, ang pagpapatawad, at ang pagpili sa isa’t isa araw-araw,” she told the newlyweds.
Beyond the vows, the city government emphasized that the event reflects Marikina’s commitment to strengthening families and fostering a culture of love, responsibility, and community solidarity.
As part of the celebration, the newlyweds also received monetary gifts to help them begin their married life.
Under the Local Government Code of 1991, city mayors are authorized to solemnize marriages within their jurisdiction as part of their official functions.
Through initiatives such as mass weddings, the city government continues to support couples who may face financial constraints while fostering a community grounded in strong families, shared commitment, and enduring love. (Richielyn Canlas)
