TACLOBAN CITY — A 34-year-old mother and her two young daughters perished in a blaze that engulfed their home in Barangay District 1, Babatngon, Leyte, shortly after midnight on Saturday, Dec. 27.
Initial reports revealed that the victims were asleep inside the house when the blaze erupted at around 12:30 a.m., trapping the mother and her daughters, aged 13 and 8.
Neighbors attempted to extinguish the flames but were unable to contain the rapidly spreading fire. The local fire station declared the blaze under control at 2:49 a.m.
The Municipal Health Officer pronounced all three victims dead at the scene.
Authorities estimated property damage at ₱1.3 million.
Fire investigators are still working to determine the cause of the incident. (Marie Tonette Marticio)
