The National University Nazareth School has issued an apology amid backlash to its boys’ volleyball team’s unnecessary action after its do-or-die semifinal win against University of Santo Tomas in the UAAP Season 88 high school boys tournament last Monday, Dec. 8.

After carving out a 25–22, 25–19, 23–25, 26–24 triumph over the Junior Golden Spikers, the Bullpups were seen in a photo mocking – by making a crying gesture – its rival moments after the game concluded at the Blue Eagles Gym.

“NU Nazareth School sincerely apologizes for the behavior shown by some of our high school volleyball players after the recent UAAP match against UST,” the school said in a statement Tuesday, Dec. 9.

Those actions, however, were condemned by the school, noting the conduct was “unacceptable and contradicts the values of respect, humility, and love that NU Nazareth teaches.”

The campus has also disclosed that it already talked to the players and the coaches involved in the incident, and will implement proper corrective measures to prevent the similar scenario from occurring again in the future games.

“We thank the UAAP community for holding us accountable to the standards we expect of ourselves. Your support remains deeply appreciated,” it concluded.

Several Bullpups players have expressed regret over their actions through posts on their social media stories.

Meanwhile, NUNS plunges into its sixth consecutive Finals appearance where it tangles with University of the East, which outlasted Far Eastern University in the semis, this Thursday, December 11, at the same venue.
