Former Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Leal Guo has been transferred from the Pasig City Jail to the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City following her conviction last Nov. 20 for qualified human trafficking.

Alongside Guo, Jaimielyn Santos Cruz and Rachelle Joan Malonzo Carreon were also moved to the CIW last Friday night, Dec. 5.

They, together with five other accused — Walter Wong Rong, Wang Weili, Wuli Dong, Nong Ding Chang, and Lang Xu Po — were sentenced to life imprisonment and fined ₱2 million by Pasig City RTC Judge Annilyn Medes-Cebelis.

Judge Medes-Cebelis ordered the transfer of Guo, Cruz, and Carreon, who were escorted by Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) officers led by Chief Insp. Jean Olive Unciano, warden of the Pasig City Jail Female Dormitory.

They arrived at the CIW’s Reception and Diagnostic Clinic (RDC) at 10:17 p.m.

CIW Superintendent Marjorie Ann Sanidad said the three will undergo a five-day quarantine and medical examination before being placed in the RDC’s regular dormitory for 55 days of orientation, diagnostics, and qualification.

After completing the 60-day intake process, they will be assigned to the Maximum-Security Camp, consistent with their life sentences.

BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. emphasized that the 55-day assessment period is crucial in determining the psychological and physical needs of newly committed persons deprived of liberty (PDLs), enabling the creation of individualized treatment plans.

Catapang also said that the RDC provides orientation programs and educational sessions aimed at helping new PDLs adjust to the correctional environment while understanding their rights and the facility’s rules. (Czarina Ong Ki)
