A member of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) was shot and killed by an unidentified assailant  early Wednesday morning, Nov. 5, on Barlin Street in Sampaloc, Manila.

The Manila Police District (MPD) identified the victim as Apprentice Seaman Al Hazil Tati, 38. The incident occurred around 4 a.m.

According to Lt. Col. Arwen De Silva Nacional, chief of the Barbosa Police Station, Tati was reportedly involved in a heated argument with the suspect that escalated into a fistfight.

The suspect allegedly pulled out a .45-caliber firearm, chased the victim, and shot him.

Due to the victim’s Muslim faith, no autopsy was performed.

His remains were turned over to PCG personnel for immediate burial in accordance with Islamic tradition.

Police said the suspect was known to the victim and is now the subject of a follow-up investigation to determine the motive and secure an arrest. (Diann Calucin)
