Authorities have launched a manhunt for a 37-year-old tricycle driver who assaulted and killed his 63-year-old neighbor with a baseball bat on Dagupan Extension in Tondo, Manila, on Oct. 28.
According to police, the victim, a barker, had visited a relative to collect rent for his room when the incident occurred.
A witness claimed the suspect may have been enraged by the elderly man’s noise, leading him to attack later that night.
The same witness said this was not the first time the suspect had allegedly tried to harm the victim.
Barangay 184 officials said they were responding to a robbery nearby and did not witness the attack. However, a barangay watcher saw the suspect trailing the victim with a baseball bat and attempted to intervene.
As the watcher returned to the barangay hall to call for backup, the suspect reportedly struck the senior citizen in the head multiple times before fleeing on an e-bike.
The victim was found bloodied on the sidewalk and rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. (Patrick Garcia)
