LEGAZPI CITY, Albay – A radio commentator was shot and wounded Monday morning, Oct. 20, in Barangay Morera, Guinobatan town, in what his family believes was a work-related attack.

Police identified the victim as Noel Samar, 54, a hard-hitting block timer and commentator affiliated with Kadunong iTV and DWIZ in Albay.

Initial investigation said Samar was driving a motorcycle on the way to Ligao City, Albay from his residence in Guinobatan when he was shot by unidentified gunmen at 9:05 a.m.

He was first taken to the Josefina Belmonte Duran Albay Provincial Hospital in Ligao City and transferred to the Bicol Regional Hospital and Medical Center in Legazpi City.

Samar’s family suspect that the attack may have been work-related due to his reputation as a fearless radio commentator.

The Police Regional Office-5 is pursuing the suspects.

Police Lt. Col. Malu Calubaquib, PRO-5 spokesperson, said they have created Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) Samar to solve the case.

PRO-5 director Police Brig. Gen. Nestor C. Babagay Jr. condemned the attack on the media practitioner.

“Our efforts are in full motion. I have directed all our investigators to fast-track the investigation and leave no stone unturned until the suspect is identified, arrested, and held accountable for this ruthless act,” Babagay said.

He assured them that the full force of the law will be used to ensure justice for the victim.

Authorities appealed for information that could help locate the suspect and resolve the case swiftly. (Niño Luces)
