Malacañang has ordered the suspension of classes at all levels and government work in multiple areas across Luzon on Monday, Sept. 22, due to expected heavy rainfall from Super Typhoon Nando and the southwest monsoon.
The directive, contained in Memorandum Circular No. 97 signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on Sunday, Sept. 21, follows the recommendation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
Suspension covers the following areas:
Metro Manila, Abra, Antique, Apayao, Bataan, Batanes, Batangas, Benguet, Bulacan, Cagayan, Cavite, Ifugao, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Isabela, Kalinga, La Union, Laguna, Mountain Province, Nueva Ecija, Nueva Vizcaya, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Pampanga, Pangasinan, Palawan, Romblon, Rizal, Tarlac, and Zambales.-
Agencies providing basic, vital, and health services, as well as those involved in disaster preparedness and response, must remain fully operational, while non-essential government personnel may work under approved alternate arrangements.
Local Chief Executives outside the listed areas may implement localized suspensions as needed.
Meanwhile, private sector work suspensions are left to the discretion of companies. (Argyll Geducos)
