3 dead, 9 injured as passenger bus collides with freezer van in Calasiao

Three people were killed and nine others were injured after a freezer van collided head-on with a passenger bus along the provincial road in Barangay Bued, Calasiao, Pangasinan, on Thursday night, Sept. 18.

According to police reports, the driver of an Isuzu Elf truck, which was being used a freezer van, and two of his passengers were pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. A minor who was also in the truck remains confined for treatment.

The truck was reportedly attempting to overtake a motorcycle when it veered into the opposite lane, colliding head-on with a Five Star passenger bus.

The bus, driven by 44-year-old Jonathan Fernandez Gemeniano, was heading westbound, while the Elf truck was traveling east.

The impact of the crash trapped the truck’s driver and three passengers in the vehicle’s front cabin, causing severe injuries.

Seven passengers aboard the provincial bus, along with its driver, sustained body injuries and were rushed to the nearest hospital for medical attention.

Authorities are still assessing the extent of damage to both vehicles, which are now under the custody of the Calasiao Police Station as investigations continue.
