The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, which is probing the anomalous flood control projects in the country, cited contractor Pacifico “Curlee” Discaya and ex-Bulacan first District Engineering Office head Henry Alcantara in contempt for lying.

During the committee hearing on Thursday, Sept. 18, Discaya was cited first due to conflicting explanations regarding the absence of his wife, Cezarah “Sarah” Discaya, from the session.

He initially claimed her absence was due to a heart condition. However, the committee, chaired by Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo Lacsona, received a letter from Sarah stating she had a prior commitment to meet with employees about ongoing company issues, which contradicted her husband’s account.

This irked Senator Erwin Tulfo, who told Curlee that they lied to their faces — they’re disrespecting them, and making a fool out of them.

At this point, Senator Raffy Tulfo moved to cite Curlee in contempt.

Sen. Raffy further warned that he will be revealing more information later on that will expose more lies of the Discayas.

Alcantara was also cited in contempt after repeatedly denying any involvement in the questionable flood control projects in Bulacan. He maintained that his role was limited to signing documents and claimed no knowledge of the so-called ghost projects.

However, committee members expressed disbelief, noting that as the district engineer, Alcantara would have been aware of budget increases and project anomalies.

His continued denials, despite mounting evidence, led to the committee’s decision to hold him in contempt.

Both individuals are now subject to further scrutiny as the investigation continues. (Dhel Nazario)
