Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto said Wednesday, Sept. 3, that while he has not yet received an invitation to the Senate inquiry on alleged irregularities in flood control projects, he is prepared to attend if summoned.
Speaking during a media interview at the inspection and pre-construction activities of the Metro Manila Subway Project’s Ortigas Station, Sotto was asked whether he would be willing to testify against the Discayas, who are linked to the controversy.
He replied, “Wala namang invitation sa ’kin sa ngayon”.
He emphasized that appearing before the Senate is not a matter of personal choice. “Kahit sino naman po, hindi naman ‘yan sa kung gusto o hindi, kapag sila [Senate] nagpatawag, required po ‘yun”.
Sotto declined to offer further remarks on the recent Senate hearing, saying he had already made his position clear.
“Wala na naman po akong additional comments. ‘Yun na ‘yun, I will let the senators do their job.”
He reiterated the Pasig City government’s commitment to transparency, noting that it is conducting its own parallel investigation into the alleged anomalies.
He stressed the importance of accountability, saying that those responsible—whether government officials, contractors, suppliers, or politicians—must face consequences.
“The issue must not be allowed to fade. It should remain in the public eye until those responsible are held accountable.”
When asked about the luxury vehicles seized by the Bureau of Customs during a raid on St. Gerrard Construction, owned by Sarah and Curlee Discaya, Sotto declined to comment directly.
Instead, he called for an end to corrupt practices in infrastructure projects.
“Bahala na po ang customs. Ang importante ‘yung mga infrastructure projects na hindi na maulit, kasi paulit-ulit na ‘yung nangyayari sa atin eh. Kailangan po matigil na ‘yung mga kalakaran…”.
Sotto concluded by saying that while the ongoing Senate and House investigations are a good start, the real progress lies in filing appropriate cases to ensure justice is served. (Richielyn Canlas)
