BACOLOD CITY – A 31-year-old man surrendered to authorities on Wednesday, Aug. 19, after allegedly stabbing his wife to death during a heated confrontation in Sitio Batang, Barangay T-Hill, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.
Accompanied by a barangay tanod, the suspect turned himself after killing his 28-year-old wife.
According to Police Lt. Stephen Polinar, spokesperson of the Negros Oriental police, the couple had a history of marital disputes and had previously reached an agreement—facilitated by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)—that the wife would either seek her husband’s permission or be accompanied by him whenever she left their home.
Tensions reportedly escalated when the suspect lost sight of his wife during a visit to the market, triggering a confrontation that ended with the suspect allegedly stabbing her multiple times.
The victim was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Police noted that the woman had been away for two months and had only recently returned home.
While jealousy is suspected as the motive, authorities said there was no confirmation of any extramarital affair. (Glazyl Masculino)
