The Akari Chargers have added another key piece to their roster with the acquisition of a decorated setter in Mars Alba in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL).
The team made the announcement through a social media post on Wednesday, July 9, warmly welcoming the former De La Salle University standout into the fold.
“Setting the tone. Bringing the vibes. Let’s give it up for the newest spark in the Akari Fam, Mars Alba!” the team wrote.
Alba, the UAAP Season 85 Finals Most Valuable Player, expressed her excitement over the next chapter in her career.
“Can’t wait to see you po, and sana suportahan nyo po ako with the Akari Chargers. See you soon!” she said in a video message posted on the team’s social media platforms.
Alba began her professional career with Choco Mucho, where she played a pivotal role in the Flying Titans’ runner-up finish to Creamline in last year’s All-Filipino Conference.
Akari is banking on Alba’s leadership and experience, especially following the transition of former captain Michelle Cobb to her new role as assistant team manager.
She is expected to join forces with Ivy Lacsina, Eli Soyud, Grethcel Soltones, and Ced Domingo in strengthening the Chargers’ campaign.
Under head coach Tina Salak, the Chargers currently hold a 1-3 win-loss record in the PVL On Tour and are looking to recharge their momentum with Alba’s arrival.
