MARIVELES, Bataan – Ten fishermen from Bataan discovered around 222.655 kilograms of shabu, valued at P1.5 billion, floating in the western waters of Masinloc, Zambales on Thursday, May 29.
The illegal drugs, packed in 10 sacks containing vacuum-sealed plastic packs, were turned over to authorities on Monday, June 2, upon the fishermen’s return from their fishing trip.
Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Regional Office 3 (PDEA 3) Chief Jigger Montalla commended the fishermen for their swift and responsible action.
PDEA agents in Bataan and Zambales, in coordination with other law enforcement agencies and local government units, are working to trace the origin of the illegal drugs.
“The PDEA will continuously monitor all suspicious activities and remain steadfast in its commitment to eradicating drug smuggling in Central Luzon,” the PDEA Region 3 director said.
The recovered drugs have been submitted to PDEA Region 3’s laboratory for forensic examination and confirmation. (Liezle Basa Inigo)
