The Capital1 Solar Spikers have named Brazilian coach Jorge Souza de Brito as its new head coach ahead of making the first overall pick in the 2025 Premier Volleyball League Rookie Draft on Sunday, June 8.
De Brito, who is currently the national women’s team head coach, will be taking over the coaching reins from veteran mentor Roger Gorayeb after the latter spent three conferences with the team.
Gorayeb, who guided the Solar Spikers since their maiden run, will remain with the franchise as team consultant.
This would be De Brito’s first coaching stint in the league since spending a year as head coach of the Akari Chargers in 2023.
Under De Brito, the Solar Spikers hope to improve their performances over the last three conferences. They debuted with an 11th place in the 2024 All-Filipino, then improved their performance with a seventh place in the Reinforced Conference.
However, they struggled to keep that momentum and slid back to 11th in the 2024-2025 All-Filipino.
The Solar Spikers are also expected to utilize their top pick in the draft to further boost their lineup that has skipper Jorelle Singh, Leila Cruz and Des Clemente in the fold.
