Malacañang has declared May 12, the day of mid-term elections, as a special non-working holiday nationwide to allow voters to cast their ballots.

“[T]here is a need to declare Monday, 12 May 2025, as a special (non-working) holiday to enable the people to properly exercise their right to vote,” President Marcos said in Proclamation No. 878 issued and signed on Tuesday, May 6.

The declaration follows a request from the Commission on Elections (Comelec), urging the President to make the election day a holiday to allow voter participation.

Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro confirmed earlier that the Palace would issue an official declaration on Tuesday, May 6.

“Opo makakaasa po kayo mamaya po ay ibibigay na ang proclamation. Ibibigay po namin sa inyo today,” Castro said in a Palace briefing. (Betheena Unite)
