Former Asian Games champion Margielyn Didal put on an impressive performance in her return from a knee ankle injury to reign supreme in the first Red Bull Buenos Aires Conquest Women’s Championship in Argentina over the weekend.
The 25-year-old Didal flashed her old form under the searing sun, outshining seven elite female rivals from across the globe including Olympian Dutch Roos Zwetsloot in the final to capture the skateboarding title.
But the victory by Didal didn’t come easy as the judges had hard time determining the champion as both dazzled in their routines.
But in the end, Didal emerged a 3-2 winner.
“This is amazing, Argentina didn’t disappoint, can’t wait to eat Argentina steak,” said Didal in an interview after the final. “And might stay a couple days here and skate a little more.”
Didal beat Camila Caceres and Mexican Itzel Granados in semifinal and quarterfinal, respectively.
It also marked the first competition for the Tokyo Olympian since suffering a fractured left fibula which she sustained in Red Bull Skate in Brazil.
She was sidelined for almost a year, affecting her comeback bid in the 2024 Paris Games.
Didal has been a consistent top contender for the Nationals, winning myriad honors in local and global tourneys including a recognizable seventh place finish in women’s skateboarding street event of 2021 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
