The government has no witness yet in the fatal hazing of University of Santo Tomas law freshman Horacio “Atio” Castillo III last September 16, Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II said yesterday.

Aguirre lamented that the two possible witnesses who came to his office failed to return for fear of their lives.

“They did not come back anymore despite our assurance of security and coverage under our Witness Protection Program,” he said.

He said the two – a member of the Aegis Juris Fraternity and a neophyte – provided only “tips” but did not submit counter-affidavits.

Aguirre reiterated his call for witnesses in the hazing to come forward as he assured them of WPP coverage. (Rey G. Panaligan)
