A 29‑year‑old woman was arrested in Novaliches after failing to settle a ₱40,000 cockfight bet she lost on Tuesday night, Aug. 25.
Police identified the suspect as alias “Jen,” a resident of General Mariano Alvarez, Cavite. She placed the wager at a cockpit on Sarmiento Street, Barangay Sta. Monica, around 11 p.m.
Investigators said Jen assured the collector she had the means to pay after the fight. However, she lost the bet and failed to settle the amount despite repeated demands.
She reportedly told the complainant she was waiting for her boss to provide the money, but no payment was made.
The complainant sought police assistance, leading Novaliches Police Station 4 personnel to arrest Jen at around 11:30 p.m.
Officers recovered a betting ticket corresponding to the ₱40,000 wager.
Jen is set to face an estafa complaint before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
