A Korean drama star cooking Filipino food in Seoul may sound like an unlikely television concept. But that is exactly the premise behind “Kumusta,” a new culinary travel series headlined by Ji Chang-wook.

Via the show, the popular South Korean actor steps into unfamiliar territory—helping introduce Filipino comfort food to Korean diners through a pop-up restaurant in Seoul.

Adding Pinoy authenticity to the proceedings are several well-known names in local entertainment, including Jodi Sta. Maria, Janella Salvador, Francine Diaz, and Arci Muñoz.

Also part of the project is chef-restaurateur JP Anglo, who guides the group through the realities of operating a working kitchen.

During a media conference at the Sheraton Manila Hotel in Newport World Resorts, the cast shared the challenges that came with the project.

According to Anglo, their group spent up to 12 hours a day for seven consecutive days preparing and serving Filipino dishes such as Chicken Inasal, Kare-kare, Sisig, and the festive staple Lechon.

The experience proved demanding even for seasoned performers.

“I have renewed appreciation to those working in this industry because I experienced how hard it is talaga,” Salvador said during the launch.

Ji, for his part, said he enjoyed the shoot and appreciated how welcoming the Filipino cast was throughout filming.

Anglo returned the compliment, describing the Korean star simply as “talagang mabait,” noting he adapted well despite the unfamiliar environment of a busy kitchen.

For Muñoz—who has long spoken about her interest in Korean culture—meeting the Korean actor was a highlight. She described “Kumusta” as an “unforgettable experience.”

The series also features guest appearances from Korean stars Kim Min-seok, Kim Myung-soo, and Seo In-guk.

According to E&S Partners CEO Jack Hyunsoo Noh, show producer, “Kumusta” was designed to bring Korean and Filipino personalities together through food and shared experiences.

“Kumusta” premieres May 24 at 6:45 p.m. on TV5, with streaming also available on Viu.
