Karl Eldrew Yulo is not just a younger of Paris Olympics double gold medalist Carlos Yulo.

He’s now also a world champion like his illustrious brother.

Displaying the DNA of an extraordinary gymnast, the younger Yulo scored a breakthrough in the senior level after winning the floor exercise gold medal in the Antalya leg of the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Series in Turkey on Saturday, March 14.

Performing with a degree of difficulty of 5.3, the 18-year-old Yulo turned heads and scored 8.800 on execution — the highest in the final — to finish with a 14.100 total for his first-ever gold medal in the senior division.

It was a marked improvement from his 13.666 performance in the qualifications on Thursday, March 12, where he placed fourth.

He outshone Ireland’s Eamon Montgomery (13.833) and 2020 Tokyo Olympics silver winner Rayderley Zapata of Spain (13.333), who finished with the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

The competition was Yulo’s second stint in the senior level after competing in the Baku leg in Azerbaijan last week.
