The Philippine National Police (PNP) expressed confidence that the suspects behind the brutal killing of Police Senior Master Sergeant Diane Marie Mollenido and her eight-year-old son, John Ysmael, will be convicted in court.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr. said investigators have gathered strong documentary evidence and testimonies against at least four suspects already in custody.

Authorities are also probing whether Mollenido’s ex-husband, PSMS John Mollenido, 39, was involved.

Police said the deaths stemmed from a fraudulent car transaction.

Mollenido had given ₱550,000 to a couple—her wedding godchildren—and another ₱450,000 from selling her Toyota Innova to purchase a second-hand Mitsubishi Montero.

The vehicle turned out to be non-existent, and investigators believe the couple carried out the attack to prevent their scam from being exposed.

“This case was pursued from Day 1, with all angles investigated and evidence meticulously reviewed. We are confident of conviction,” Nartatez said. (Aaron Recuenco)
