PH Golf Championship fires off Thursday with Pinoy aces looking for good start

Former Philippine Open champions Angelo Que and Clyde Mondilla, as well as five-time Philippine Golf Tour Order of Merit winner Antonio Lascuña banner the country’s campaign in the Philippine Golf Championship starting on Thursday, Feb. 5, at the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club in Mandaluyong City.

Presented by the Philippine Sports Commission, the 72-hole tournament serves as the kick off leg of the Asian Tour season with other seasoned foreign players also expected to compete.

Que is scheduled to tee off at 7 a.m. along with Kristoffer Broberg and Ian Snyman, while Mondilla opens his campaign at 11:40 a.m. with Wang Jeunghun and Suteepat Prateeptienchai.

Lascuna, for his part, starts at the back nine at 7:50 a.m. with Tomohiro Ishizaka and Prom Meesawat.

Sixteen local players and six national amateurs are also invited to comprise the 144-player field that include former OOM winners Sihwan Kim (2022), Jazz Janewattananond (2019) and Scott Hend (2016).

Other notable contenders were Wang Wei-hsuan, Rattanon Wannasrichan, Jinichiro Kozuma, Lee Chieh-po, Suteepat Prateeptienchai, Taichi Kho and Sarit Suwannarut.

From the local side, Japan Tour regular Justin Delos Santos and Fil-British Enrique Dimayuga are also seeing action along with Rupert Zaragosa, Aidric Chan, Keanu Jahns, Michael Bibat,Carl Jano Corpus, Marvin Dumandan and Lloyd Jefferson Go, to name a few.

The event offers a total prize prize of $500,000 from the Asian Tour and the National Golf Association of the Philippines (NGAP).
