President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has declared January 9 as a special non-working day in the City of Manila for the celebration of the Feast of Jesus Nazareno.
Through Proclamation No. 1126, the President designated the date, which falls on a Friday, as a non-working holiday in recognition of the millions of devotees expected to participate in the annual Traslacion procession.
“[I]n order to ensure orderly procession of devotees and to facilitate the flow of traffic, the City of Manila requests that Friday, 09 January 2026 be declared a special (non-working) day,” the proclamation read.
It recognized that millions of devotees will be flocking the Quiapo Church for the annual feast.
Executive Secretary Ralph Recto, with the authority of the President, signed the proclamation on Tuesday, Jan. 6.
The feast is an annual religious festival celebrated in the country.
In Manila and other parts of the country, a mass procession of the black image of Jesus Christ is being done during the feast. (Betheena Unite)
