ILOILO CITY – Vice Mayor Aimee Paz Lamasan of Dueñas town, Iloilo province, died on New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31, one day after an alleged accidental shooting on Tuesday morning, Dec. 30, at her residence here.

The 49-year-old allegedly did not survive a follow-up surgery on Wednesday.

Her death shocked Ilonggos as she was reportedly in stable condition after she was taken to Saint Paul’s Hospital following the incident.

“Asta sbng nd pa ko magbaton nga wala ka na (Until now, I cannot accept you are gone),” said Dueñas Mayor Robert Martin Pama.

Tributes and condolences poured in for Lamasan.

“She will be remembered as leader of integrity, compassion, and genuine service. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of the people she served and in the community she so dearly loved,” said Iloilo fourth district Rep. Ferj Biron in a statement on New Year’s Day.

Questions were raised if Lamasan’s death was accidental.

Lamasan was with her partner Lord Byron Torrecarion who is with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and a former director of the Office of Civil Defense-Eastern Visayas.

Torrecarion told authorities that Lamasan accidentally shot herself while preparing her things. (Tara Yap)
