Games Sunday
(Ynares Center, Antipolo)
5:15 p.m. – Phoenix vs Titan Ultra
7:30 p.m. – Meralco vs Converge
By MARK REY MONTEJO
Meralco and Converge clash in an all-important match, while Titan Ultra aims to remain in the playoff hunt in the PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup on Sunday, Dec. 14, at the Ynares Center in Antipolo
Despite playing their third game in six days, the Bolts (5-4) hope to overcome fatigue as they go for a three-game winning streak against the FiberXers (6-3) in their 7:30 p.m. contest.
Just like Meralco, Converge is also out to avail of a twice-to-beat incentive in the quarters at the end of the elims, so expect heated action.
Clashing at 5:15 p.m. are the Giant Risers (3-6) and the already-ran Phoenix Fuel Masters (3-7).
The Giant Risers need to win if they are to stay in the quarterfinals hunt.
As things stand now, a victory by Meralco over Converge would make the race for the twice-to-beat advantages a lot interesting.
With a 7-2 card, Rain or Shine appears to be standing on solid ground, but still need to win one more to assure itself of a bonus while streaking San Miguel (6-2) must win two more if its to clinch a bonus.
That’s because Magnolia (6-3), NLEX (6-3), Converge and TNT (5-3) are not far behind in the standings.
Chris Newsome, who took charge in the Bolts’ 88-78 triumph over Phoenix last Friday, is expected to lead the pack anew, along with emerging star CJ Cansino, and mainstays Bong Quinto and Cliff Hodge.
Converge, which is still reeling from an 84-90 loss to Rain or Shine, needs to regroup and get another stellar performance from prized rookie Juan Gómez de Liaño alongside Larry Muyang, Alec Stockton, Deschon Winston, and Justine Baltazar.
