The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) reported that it had secured documents from the condominium unit of resigned congressman Zaldy Co, which may prove vital to the investigation into the “anomalous” flood control projects.
NBI Spokesperson Palmer Mallari confirmed that agents from the bureau’s Organized and Transnational Crime Division (NBI-OTCD), armed with a court-issued search warrant, conducted the operation at Co’s unit in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.
“The operation was a success in so far as the NBI Organized and Transnational Crime Division being able to collect what we believe was sufficient evidence,” Mallari said.
He said the recovered documents were stashed inside three vaults. He did not disclose the contents of the documents.
He added that the NBI will cross reference the recovered documents with those kept by the bureau and submitted by witnesses.
He said: “We made it a point that the opening of the vaults, whether forced open or opened through combinations, was actually done in the presence of the lawyers and the other occupants and the building administrator.”
Mallari said the search warrant will be returned to the court that issued it and the NBI will submit the inventory of items found in the condominium unit.
“And from there. we will wait for the disposition of the court on the matter,” he added. (Jeffrey Damicog)
