Filipino film fans are abuzz over “I’mPerfect”, a groundbreaking entry to the 2025 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) that stars two actors with Down syndrome in the lead roles—sparking curiosity and nationwide conversation.
The film follows Jiro (Earl Jonathan Amanda) and Jessica (Anne Krystel Daphne Go) as they meet, fall in love, and pursue universal themes of freedom, acceptance, and self-discovery.

By centering the story on amateur actors with Down syndrome, “I’mPerfect” signals a bold move toward truly inclusive storytelling in Philippine cinema.
Produced by Nathan Studios Inc. and directed by Sigrid Andrea P. Bernardo, the filmmaker behind the box-office hit “Kita Kita”, the film has already gone viral online.
Its teaser delivers a resonant line: “When the world says they can’t… they’ll show us they can.” The message has struck a chord with audiences and sparked social media calls for a more inclusive society.
The supporting cast features a powerhouse lineup of veteran actors, including Sylvia Sanchez, Janice De Belen, Lorna Tolentino, Tonton Gutierrez, Joey Marquez, and Zaijian Jaranilla, blending experience with fresh talent.

While Filipino cinema has previously featured actors with Down syndrome, “I’mPerfect” places their story at the very heart of its narrative, marking a milestone in representation.
Bernardo revealed the film is the culmination of a 15-year vision: “I am thankful to Nathan Studios for making my vision come to life. After 15 years, our story will finally be shared with the world, bringing inclusive voices to life.”
Social media response has been overwhelmingly positive.
One user wrote: “Aww, so cute. I’m looking forward to watching this. Sometimes lang ako nanonood ng Filipino movies, but this seems worth it.”
Another added: “To a more inclusive society!”
“I’mPerfect” premieres December 25, as part of the 51st MMFF.
