The Philippine National Police (PNP) leadership ordered on Friday, Dec. 3, a thorough investigation into the reported robbery of ₱14 million in cash from a private contractor in Porac, Pampanga, allegedly carried out by five policemen.
Acting PNP chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. directed the Central Luzon Police Regional Office (PRO-3) to account for all personnel involved and place them under restrictive custody.
The suspects include a police major serving as station commander in Angeles City, a corporal and two staff sergeants identified as his intelligence operatives, and another corporal assigned to the Zambales Provincial Police Office, who was previously detailed in Angeles City.
Initial findings revealed that four of the officers entered the contractor’s home in Barangay Santa Cruz on Nov. 25, wearing face coverings to conceal their identities. They allegedly forced the contractor, his family, and guests into a comfort room before fleeing with the cash.
PRO-3 clarified that the contractor is not linked to flood control projects.
Although the police major did not appear in security footage, PRO-3 director Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio Peñones Jr. said evidence strongly suggests he masterminded the crime.
Further investigation uncovered that three of the officers had prior derogatory records, including cases of shooting and robbery-extortion.
Peñones said the five police officers have been relieved from their posts as a standard procedure while the investigation is ongoing.
A Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) was created to conduct a deeper probe and ensure an airtight case.
Peñones assured that all concerned units are securing evidence, validating timelines, and reviewing relevant information to establish full accountability.
A separate investigation by the Internal Affairs Service (IAS) has also been launched into the Pampanga incident.(Martin Sadongdong, Liezle Basa Iñigo)
