Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso downplayed President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s recent remarks suggesting he should lead the country’s housing projects, saying the Chief Executive was only joking but that he appreciated the compliment.

“Joke lang niya ’yon, pero we’ll be happy to share the idea of horizontal housing, which he saw in Baseco, or vertical housing, which we mentioned,” Domagoso said during an ambush interview at the inauguration of San Lazaro Residences on Thursday, Nov. 27.

President Marcos Jr., speaking at the turnover ceremony of the 20-story San Lazaro Residences, noted that the national government could learn from Domagoso’s housing initiatives.

“Kailangan magpaturo kami sa inyo paano ginagawa ’yan… Ikaw na mag-in charge doon para magawa ’yan,” the President remarked.

Domagoso, now serving his second term as Manila mayor, reiterated his commitment to complete all three terms if given the mandate by the people.

“I’ve committed to the people. That is the wish of political analysts. It is only their wish. But I think I’d rather stay in Manila for the next 10 years, if given a chance by the people,” he earlier said in an interview with ANC in May 2025.
