Immaculada Concepcion College achieved what it failed to accomplish last season, winning the women’s crown of the 2025 PG Flex-UCAL Season 8 Volleyball Tournament via a two-game sweep on Thursday, Nov. 27, at the Paco Arena in Manila.
The ICC Lady Blue Hawks capped their dominant run with a 25-22, 25-17, 18-25, 25-20 win over the Philippine Christian University-Dasmariñas Lady Dolphins in Game 2 of the best-of-three title series.
The title win was ICC’s 10th straight since the elims and 11th overall since winning the sudden death match of their championship series with University of Batangas last season.
Indeed, it was a memorable day for ICC as its men’s team ended reigning titlist UB’s 21-game winning run with a dramatic 25-22, 14-25, 25-27, 26-24, 15-11 victory to force a sudden death on Tuesday, Dec. 2, also at the same venue.
As in the team’s 25-21, 25-18, 25-20 win in Game 1, it was wing spiker Jho Rence Siazon who stood out among a bevy of outstanding performers with 14 points on 13 attacks and one service ace.
Three other ICC players scored in double figures with middle-blocker Jeheil Moraga adding 10 points while Andrea Caparal and Filma Joy Casera contributing 9 points each in the event backed by Akari, Advance Solutions Inc., Smart Sports, Spalding, Team Rebel Sports, Quintana Sports, Crane Faucet, Hapee Toothpaste, Jiang Nan Restaurant, Vital, TopFlite Academy, Maruyama, and Gerry’s Grill.
In keeping their title bid alive, the Blue Hawks went to Aron Deverosa and the veteran wing spiker did not disappoint as he exploded for 30 points off 28 attacks and two blocks.
Meantime, Lyceum-Batangas clinched the bronze in men’s division with a 23-25, 25-19, 28-26, 18-25, 15-13 thriller over PCU-D, while UB Lady Brahmans took the bronze in the distaff side with 26-18, 21-25, 25-12, 26-24 victory over LPU-B.
