A 38-year-old bank messenger was arrested by Makati City police after stealing P650,000 from entrusted funds to fund his online gambling habit, the Southern Police District (SPD) reported Wednesday, Nov. 19.
The suspect, identified as “Jessie,” a resident of Barangay 12, Caloocan City, had been tasked by his bank manager to deposit P1,050,000 into her account.
During the supposed delivery, the victim and her colleagues lost contact with him.
After repeated attempts to reach him, Jessie eventually answered the victim’s calls, claiming he was at a gasoline station along Filmore Street in Barangay Palanan, Makati City.
He later confessed to diverting P650,000 into his personal account to play online card games, prompting the victim to alert authorities.
Police recovered the remaining P400,000 from his possession.
Jessie is now under custody and facing qualified theft charges. (Patrick Garcia)
