A magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck Candoni, Negros Occidental, early Monday, Nov. 3, with aftershocks expected, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
In its Earthquake Information No. 2, the agency said the tectonic quake hit at 3:06 a.m., with the epicenter located 16 kilometers south of Candoni, and depth of focus at 89 kilometers.
Phivolcs said the earthquake was felt at Intensity IV in Candoni, Negros Occidental; and in the cities of Dumaguete and Sibulan, both in Negros Oriental.
Instrumental Intensities:
- Intensity III in Jordan, Guimaras; the cities of Bago, La Carlota, and Sipalay in Negros Occidental.
- Intensity II in Malinao, Aklan; Culasi, San Jose, Sebaste, and Valderrama, Antique; Nueva Valencia, Guimaras; Argao and Cebu City in Cebu; Dipolog, Liloy, Sindangan, and Siocon in Zamboanga del Norte; and Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur.
- Intensity I in Anini-y, Antique; Jamindan, Roxas City, and Tapaz, Capiz; San Lorenzo, Guimaras; Bacolod City; Talibon, Bohol; and Asturias and Talisay, Cebu.
Phivolcs said no damage is expected but warned that aftershocks may occur. (Jel Santos)
