TACLOBAN CITY — A 48-year-old teacher was shot and wounded by her estranged husband inside the Tanauan School of Craftsmanship and Home Industries in Tanauan, Leyte, on Thursday, Oct. 16, in what police say was a jealousy-driven attack.

The victim, identified as “Elize,” a resident of Brgy. Sto. Niño in the same town, sustained a gunshot wound to her right shoulder.

The suspect, “Adam,” 46, was apprehended at the scene by responding officers from the Tanauan Municipal Police Station (MPS).

Upon arrival, police found him armed with a “balisong” and attempting self-harm, but he was quickly subdued.

Elize had already been rushed to a nearby hospital by a colleague before authorities arrived.

Initial investigations revealed that Adam entered the school and shot the victim without provocation.

He allegedly threw the .38-caliber revolver onto the roof of a nearby building after the incident. The weapon was later recovered by police.

Authorities confirmed that the couple was separated at the time of the shooting. The suspect claimed jealousy fueled the attack, alleging he had discovered the victim was having an affair. (Marie Tonette Marticio)
