Former Ilocos Sur governor and businessman Luis “Chavit” Singson has called on the Filipino youth to skip classes as a peaceful protest against widespread corruption in government.

His statement comes amid ongoing investigations into irregularities in flood control and infrastructure projects.

Speaking at a media conference in San Juan City on Friday, Sept. 19, Singson expressed deep frustration over what he described as a “rotten” government plagued by widespread corruption across various agencies.

“This government of ours is rotten. It’s like a dilapidated vehicle—no matter how much you overhaul it or replace its parts, it remains the same. That’s why we need a brand-new one,” he said.

While acknowledging that the Philippines has “good laws,” he lamented the poor implementation and enforcement, which he believes undermines the country’s progress.

Rather than taking to the streets in protest, Singson urged the youth to lead a peaceful revolution by refusing to attend school until corrupt officials step down.

“Wag na kayong pumasok hangga’t di nagre-resign ang mga corrupt,” he said.

“Ang suggestion ko lang, huwag natin pahirapan ang taong bayan. Yung rally-rally, baka may manggulo pa. It will be a peaceful revolution about corruption.”

Singson emphasized that the movement is not for personal gain but for the future of the next generation.

“This is not for ourselves, this is for the future of our children. Mga kabataan, pabayaan natin sila. Sila mag-lead itong revolution para matanggal ang corruption,” he added. (Patrick Garcia)
