Majority Leader and Ilocos Norte 1st district Rep. Sandro Marcos has urged Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Zaldy Co to return to the Philippines and confront the serious allegations against him, warning that an ethics complaint could be pursued if he continues to stay abroad.
“I’ll be the first one to tell you that he should come home and face any and all allegations against him,” Marcos said in a chance interview Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 17, when asked whether or not he would tell the controversial lawmaker to come home.
Co previously chaired the powerful Committee on Appropriations in the 19th Congress, during which the P6.352-trillion 2025 General Appropriations Act (GAA) was allegedly marred by questionable “insertions.”
Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Alfredo Garbin Jr. confirmed last week that Co is currently in the United States receiving treatment for a heart condition.
Asked whether the House of Representatives could compel Co to report back to work, Marcos replied: “I do not know if that is something we can do as a body but again I think he should come home and face the allegations against him.”
“It’s too severe and it’s dragging the House in the mud,” the presidential son added.
Marcos reiterated that if Co refuses to return, an ethics complaint may be filed to hold him accountable. (Ellson Quismorio)
