Deputy Speaker Zambales 1st district Rep. Jay Khonghun said the House of Representatives will soon have a new leader, with Deputy Speaker Isabela 6th district Rep. Faustino “Bojie” Dy III reportedly poised to succeed Leyte 1st district Rep. Martin Romualdez, who is resigning amid the flood control projects corruption scandal.
Khonghun was interviewed by House reporters on Wednesday morning, Sept. 17, as he exited a party leaders’ meeting discussing the upcoming changes in the chamber’s leadership.
“Kung sasabihin man naming malungkot, syempre natural lang ‘yun dahil tao lamang naman tayo, naging mabuti naman si Speaker Romualdez sa mga congressmen at sa institution, marami din siyang naging kaibigan na miyembro ng Kamara. So natural lang yun na may kalungkutan din,” he said.
“Pero ‘yun nga, we have to move on, nandyan na,” Khonghun added.
“Magkakaroon tayo ng bagong liderato ng House, si Speaker Bojie Dy na tingin ko sinusuportahan naman ng majority ng mga congressman,” he said.
Romualdez is resigning amid the flood control projects corruption scandal, where several congressmen and senators have been implicated.
Asked about the current morale of the House leadership, Khonghun said: “Mataas naman no kasi si Speaker is very supportive kay incoming Speaker Bojie Dy.”
“At talagang magkaibigan sila so talagang makikita mo na nandoon yung confidence na talagang magtutuloy-tuloy yung adhikain ng institution na tulungan ang pamahalaan,” he added. (Ellson Quismorio)
