Girl swept away by floodwaters found dead in Cainta after 2 days

An eight-year-old girl who was swept away by floodwaters in Taytay, Rizal, while trying to retrieve her slipper was found dead Friday morning, Aug. 29, in Barangay Anak Pawis, Cainta.

The child reportedly fell into a canal along Pag-Asa Street on Wednesday night, Aug. 27, during heavy rains.

The strong current swept her away toward the creek.

Her body was recovered following continuous search and rescue operations conducted by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), together with the Taytay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) and rescuers from Barangays San Juan and Sta. Ana, Taytay.

The Taytay municipal government extended its condolences to the victim’s family and thanked the rescuers for their efforts in recovering the girl’s body. (Richielyn Canlas)
