The Manila Police District (MPD) is investigating the fatal shooting of two Japanese nationals by two motorcycle-riding assailants on Malvar Street in Malate on Friday night, August 15.
MPD spokesperson Major Philipp Ines confirmed that a follow-up operation is underway as investigators work to identify the gunmen and uncover the motive behind the attack.
Initial reports indicate that the incident occurred around 10 p.m., when a taxi stopped on Malvar Street to drop off passengers. Two suspects on a motorcycle approached and opened fire on the victims.
Witnesses said one of the assailants seized a bag from one of the victims before fleeing toward Adriatico Street.
Both victims died at the scene.
Authorities have yet to release the names of the victims pending notification of their families.
Police reviewed CCTV footage from the area and interviewed witnesses to aid in the investigation. (Diann Calucin)
